Okay, all you need to do is take HotStuff's big block o' code, copy that into notepad. You're going to replace from here on in. You'll start by taking whichever is your class from the above list, and sticking that in above "Vacation:" You'll replace everything from under "Pickle</a> (3)" to just above "Vacation" with whichever excerpt you choose for your class.

Now you'll want to get out KoL and log on. Go to your inventory and pick out items you use often. Right click on "[use]" or "[eat]" or "[drink]" and choose "copy shortcut" or "copy link" depending on your browser. Now go up to the beginning bits which look like "<a href="http://67.18.115.2/inv_booze.php?which=1&whichitem=762" target=mainpane>ESD</a>" and substitute the items you're using. When you've picked out all the items you want, go back and do a manual replacement of the "http://67.18.115.2/" and the "target=mainpane" bits.

Feel free to refer back to the original often. :)

Now all you have to do is go and right click on "shore" in your browser and choose "save target as" or "save link target as" and then save it to your desktop or wherever's good so you can sort through it briefly. Now you're going to find one of those fun password hashes that you can stick in where the examples just say PASSWORDHASH.

Then all you do is save the thing and take the .txt out and replace with .html. At that point you can just open it up and see if it looks even remotely right.

And that's it. If you're having problems, all but that last bit with the hash can be done by someone else. Just let me know, and I'll get stuff together for you, if you like.

Once you've got this code, you'll open up it up in a browser, and it will be a series of quicklinks basically...

so you'll click 'Use Magical Mystery Juice' and POOF full MP (without going inventory, miscellaneous, look for it, there it is, use). And then you'll put in the name of the person you want to buff and number of turns and poof... they're buffed...

so no more bouncing between invesntory and skills to buff people, and mine remebers the buff, number of turns, and person's name, so you can hit someone with say, 5 full casts in a total of 10 clicks... juice, buff, juice, buff, juice, buff etc...

Will contribute more useful helper info when I get my shiznit together.

In the meantime... which={1,2,3} determines which subscreen of inventory you go to after item use. If you remove that clause entirely, it goes to whichever subscreen you were last at, a la clicking on the inventory link in regular KoL.

So.... if I cry, whimper and whine, will someone help me? I thought I had it... I really only care about this for my 2 buffing people, sauceror and AT. Things were going well, the food was working fine, etc. But I can't buff. When I try, it tells me the page cannot be displayed.

In addition, when I try to access skills in the usual way, it just kicks me back to the main map.

Therefore... if someone will be so kind as to assist me, I'll pay you whatever you want (meat, ramen, buffage, etc.)

Edit your hash back out of what you have and email it or pm it to me, and I'll take a look. Hm, you can't do the PM on KoL, though, as I'd wager it'll trigger a limit length.

(How do I know there's a length? How do I know? Does anyone else talk as much as I do? :P)

Here's my helper pane... I've done some tricks to remove lots of extraneous items from the page. Some notes:

Donation buttons are for 30K.
PvP fights for dignity, using burninate.
The helper is for server 3.

Buffs are for TT... it should be easy to adjust for other classes.

I got my helper to work in firefox. Here's the code:

-- begin code --

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

<html>
<head>
<title>Marshall's KoL Helper</title>
</head>

<!-- frames -->
<frameset cols="5*,*">
<frameset cols="140,*">
<frame src="kolhelper.html" name="helperpane" scrolling="No">
<frameset rows="50,*">
<frame name="menupane" src="http://www3.kingdomofloathing.com/topmenu.php" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1">
<frameset cols="200,*">
<frame name="charpane" src="http://www3.kingdomofloathing.com/charpane.php" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1">
<frame name="mainpane" src="http://www3.kingdomofloathing.com/main.php" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1">
</frameset>
</frameset>
</frameset>
<frame name="chatpane" src="http://www3.kingdomofloathing.com/chatlaunch.php"" scrolling="auto" frameborder="1">
</frameset>

</html>

-- end code --

Instructions: simply put your helper pane into the place where it says 'kolhelper.html'. Log in to kingdom of loathing (on server 3), and once your logged in, open this page.

That's it. It works beautifully in Firefox.

Enjoy.

First off... YAY!

Secondly... so you'll show me how to do this later.

Sincerely,

This allows you to hide/show info in a helper pane, which means you can put everything you ever wanted in a helper and not go insane. Well, any more insane than normal.

Put this after the <head> of your HTML document:
Code:
<script language=javascript>
function showdiv(divid) {
   document.getElementById(divid).style.display = 'block';
}

function hidediv(divid) {
   document.getElementById(divid).style.display = 'none';
}
</script>

Then, put this code where you want to show/hide something:
Code:
<font size=4><b>
<a href="javascript:showdiv('DIVNAME');">+</a>
<a href="javascript:hidediv('DIVNAME');">-</a></b></font>

<div style="display: none;" id=DIVNAME>
CONTENT
</div>

Clearly, change the DIVNAME for each div. Also, I use + and - minus to indicate the existence of a <div>, but that is arbitrary. As is fontsize of 4.

Go nutso!!!11eleven1!11

I really have no idea what any of this code stuff means but it sounds like when you get it up its pretty cool.

;_; I tried it in Safari, and it just logs me out every time I try to quicklink.

Does it only work in IExploiter or something?

/me goes gleefully nuts as she crafts her very own helper.

ok...so it took me a long time to attempt it...because it looked so difficult when i looked it over that i didn't want to break my head because of it. but last night i sat down with notepad and just started working on it...now i'm nearly done with the whole thing! (minus aesthetics.) thanks much to hotstuff for this - this is going to save so much time and effort.

now i just gotta figure out how to code pulling things out of closet and putting things back. when i look at the closet code, it is just so scary. :P can anyone post a code snippet? (say with boris' key or something simple and singular like that?) i would love to automate that process as well, but i simply can't wrap my head around this all.

Closet is something like (obviously change the item number to the one you want)

closet.php?action=take&howmany=2&whichitem=593

howmany=all
is another option for all

To put things in the closet... (for this one, howmany can only be 'one' or 'all')

closet.php?action=put&howmany=all&whichitem=593

Generally the easiest way to do all of this is to make whichitem,howmany,action text input boxes so that you can just type in the item number, howmany, put/take, and things should work.

I'm having the weirdest problem with buffs and the helper window.

If I buff somebody once (say, polka of plenty for 8 MP), I lose 8 mp and they gain 15 adventures of polka (like you'd expect).
If I do 2 or more buffs (I've tried up to 15 at a time), I lose the correct amount of mp (120mp in the latter case), but they still gain only 15 turns. Same thing happens when buffing myself.
